The Edmund Mach Foundation (FEM), established in 2007 jointly by the Autonomous Province of Trento and the Agricultural Institute at San Michele all’Adige (IASMA), is setting up a Research and Innovation Centre that aims at playing an international leading role in the areas of:
- Genomics and Molecular Breeding of Fruit Crops;
- Food Quality and Natural Products Biotechnologies;
- Biodiversity and Biocomplexity of Alpine and Mountain Ecosystems.
The Centre will acquire staff and resources from the former IASMA Research Centre and the Alpine Ecology Centre (CEA) comprising state of the art facilities in plant genomics (the Centre has recently completed sequencing of the grape and apple genomes), metabolomics, natural product biotechnology, environmental (including climate change) and ecological research. Over the next three years the Centre it is set to expand to comprise 300 staff with 3000 m2 laboratories and over 30 ha of experimental fields. The Centre also hosts an international PhD School on Fruit Plant Molecular Physiology, a joint venture with leading Italian and international Universities.
The Research and Innovation Centre is now recruiting high calibre international level scientists to expand and drive forward its research programmes. This current recruitment campaign focuses on the areas of:
- COMPUTATIONAL BIOLOGY (1 Programme Leader and 4 Research Fellows).
- PLANT METABOLOMICS (1 Group Leader and 4 Research Fellows)
- FRUIT NUTRITIONAL GENOMICS (1 Group Leader and 1 Research Fellow)
- FOOD INNOVATION AND TECHNOLOGY (2 Research Fellows)
